Celebrate Health Care Reform With Others Like You
Posted by sillymickel in History on March 29, 2010
Organizing for America
This past week, we saw what change looks like. And now, it’s time to celebrate. After a year of non-stop work from OFA volunteers like you — reaching out to friends and neighbors; going to countless phone banks, town halls, canvasses, and rallies; placing millions of calls and emails to Congress; and so much more — health care reform is now the law of the land. Congratulations on making history — and thank you! To celebrate the biggest legislative accomplishment in generations, OFA is holding health reform celebration events across the country — can you join one, or sign up to host an event if there isn’t one near you? OFA volunteers and staff will get together to talk about what we just did, and we’ll watch a video that some folks here are finishing up now. We’ve all worked hard, and there’s more hard work to do. But sometimes, we all deserve a moment to just kick back, enjoy what we’ve accomplished, and appreciate the people we accomplished it with. I hope you can join us. Find and RSVP for a celebration event here: http://my.barackobama.com/CelebrationEvents This was a long, hard fight. Thanks for being there to the finish, and for making it happen. Jeremy Jeremy Bird P.S. — If there aren’t any events in your area that you can make it to, please consider hosting one of your own. It’s an easy process, and we’ve put together a host guide that will walk you through each step: |

Tea-baggers proclaiming “liberty”..”free speech” while aiming to overthrow our democracy & institute dictatorship
Posted by sillymickel in History on March 27, 2010
Can somebody tell me how good America-loving people want 2 overthrow democracy? Is it all because Obama is Black?
Hello friends,
I commented on something I found in the Christian Science Monitor, which read like this: ______________________________________________________________________________Amplify’d from www.csmonitor.com:
A new poll shows that a quarter of Republicans think Obama may be
the anti-Christ. Apocalyptic right-wing rhetoric is going mainstream,
as Republican lawmakers stoke the flames of epithet-hurlers and
conspiracy theorists.
Lawmakers have led this charge, making them more troubling than the
protesters who (flung racist and homophobic words at Democratic
legislators as they marched to vote Sunday. These elected officials in
good standing with the Republican Party can’t be explained away as a
few bad apples. From Rep. Joe Wilson’s “You lie!” in the middle of
President Obama’s first State of the Union to Rep. Randy Neugebauer’s
“Baby killer!” chucked at Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak during Mr.
Stupak’s speech supporting healthcare reform, Republican officeholders
are behaving badly and encouraging their supporters to do the same.
___________________________________________________________
I’m including below a sample of my comments on this shocking news. For all of it, go to:http://bit.ly/teafascism
One of our “Amplifyers,” reddenm, has asked “Toxic hyperbole…inciting domestic terrorism”? (/)
I’m glad he asked, for we don’t want to look at what’s ahead on the
road the Becks, Limbaughs, tea-baggers, Republicans, and anti-Obama
forces are pushing America down.
I’m old enough to have seen this happen too many times, too many times
to see our country crippled in tragedy…too late, the damage done, can’t
be undone…
And this is the worst I’ve seen in 60 years, for it is coming from the
mouths of duly elected Republican legislators…legislators standing in
the halls of Congress and egging on protesters in the balconies
attempting to shut down our government — the one that WE ELECTED WITH A
MAJORITY OF VOTES. I’ve seen these Republican “legislators” standing on
outside balconies and egging on tea-baggers to violence, to violent
overthrow of our democracy, to …. what?
So is it inciting domestic terrorism? How could it not?
Indeed, I would call death threats, cutting the propane line to a
congressman’s brother’s house, threatening to do violence to the
families, the children, of our fairly elected representatives, and the
fact that all kinds of guns are flying off the shelves of gun shops
throughout the red states (who lost the election), as pretty good
examples of people who want their own way, democracy be damned.
And I am offended that people dare say that I support COMMUNISM for
wanting democracy in our country. This guy here on Amplify, a former
Marine, whose site I checked out, and felt admiration for his work in
legally protecting the victims of crimes — including rape — committed
on ocean cruises, among other of his good work. Well this guy This guy
was a Marine, and he’s got a law degree. He’s doing good work, seems to
love his family and be a good father.
But I’m dumbfounded that he would equate democracy with COMMUNISM,
which he most assuredly does? How could educated, good people not know
the difference?
Does he not know the difference between free elections and what he and
these people are espousing — government at the barrel of a gun! How
many more JFKs (was JFK a COMMUNIST!?), MLKs, RFKs, etc. Where do
people get off thinking that just because the majority of the country
doesn’t agree with them, then the majority of the country must be
COMMUNIST.
And if their answer to COMMUNISM/totalitarianism is democracy, then why
can’t they accept the results of fair elections? Don’t they see that it
is THEIR sentiments that are those of totalitarian states?
We have democratic elections in our grade schools, junior high, high
schools — many places in America — and we all know that “the most votes
wins”!
When did fighting for liberty mean taking the rights away from the
majority of the people who don’t agree with your extremist views, not
to mention your idiotic confusion of democracy and COMMUNISM.
Christ…EVEN JOE McCARTHY WASN’T THAT STUPID!!!!
Will somebody tell me how good people can so easily become fascist? Can
somebody tell me how good people who love our country want to overthrow
Democracy?
Is it all because Obama is Black?
Good lord, are these people Christian? Do they not even realize that
Jesus was not white, Anglo, aryan, or the like but would no doubt have
been considered a “minority” in America at the current time?
So what are the sentiments behind these accusations of COMMUNISM (which
never held free elections…and good Marines damn well know it!) for
supporting the will of the majority, as expressed in the last election?
I’d really like to know if it would all be different if Obama was White and was named Barry Owens.
People are going to die here folks. It could be me — it could easily
have been me at Kent State. It could be me now, too. Buy, hey,
dido-tea-bag-kkk-liberal-hater-freedom-hater…head!….. It could even be
you! And, reckless haters of good-feeling…you kitty-drowners and
butterfly-mashers of America…don’t you realize it could be your own
child or grandchild struck dead by what you are unleashing…not from a
liberal’s bullet or conflagration, but do you really trust that the
militias you worship are really going to be that disciplined, or that
good, or that perfect…that there will be no collateral damage?
Wake up now, before someday you wake up, middle of the night, crying over what you cannot take back…. it has happened before.

Last
weekend, anti-health care protesters were out in force in Washington—and some of their behavior
was deeply disturbing.
A
crowd of tea partiers shouted the “n
word” at Congressman John Lewis, a former civil rights leader
who marched with Dr. King. They yelled homophobic epithets at Rep. Barney
Frank, an openly gay congressman. And one protester actually spat on a Black
member of Congress.1
Then
this week, Democrats who voted for reform
began receiving death threats—one had a coffin left on his
lawn and another was told snipers would kill the children of lawmakers who
voted yes.2 Several Democrats had their district offices vandalized,
and a gas line was cut at a home that tea partiers mistakenly believed belonged
to Rep. Tom Perriello.3
A
few Republicans have spoken out against the racism and violence, but most are
still treating them as “isolated incidents.”4 They are not
isolated. They’ve been part of Republican-supported tea parties for almost a
year and they’re a natural consequence of
telling people that reform is a totalitarian plot.5
It’s
an outrage, and no American should tolerate it. So we’re joining with our
friends at Color of Change to stand up to the hate. Can you add your name to
this letter asking Republican leaders to
unequivocally condemn bigotry, hate, and violence among their supporters?
http://pol.moveon.org/condemnhate/?id=19569-5520183-SPCIIAx&t=3
The letter asks the leaders of the Republican party to do
two simple things:
- Unequivocally condemn bigotry and hate among
your supporters, and make clear that those who embrace it have no place in
your party and that you reject their support. - Make clear that you will not tolerate
fear-mongering and coded appeals to racism from officials in the
Republican Party, at any level.
Instead of calming the tea partiers’ anger, Republican
members of Congress have stoked it. NBC reported that on Saturday, Reps. Mike
Pence, Tom Price, and Michele Bachmann all addressed the tea partiers and that
Bachmann stirred them “into a tizzy.”6 Protesters from
that rally then fanned out across Capitol Hill and were behind the assaults on
Reps. Lewis, Frank, and Cleaver.7
Yesterday,
Rep. John Boehner called the violence and threats “unacceptable.”8
But just last week, he referred to fellow
representative Steve Driehaus as “a dead man” if he voted
for health care reform.9 And while Boehner’s office insisted his
remark wasn’t meant to be taken literally, as Rep. Driehaus pointed out,
“It doesn’t really matter the way you meant it, nor the way I accept it.
It’s how the least sane person in my district accepts it.”10
And
there’s more: During the debate on the floor of the House on Sunday, Rep. Randy
Neugebauer shouted “baby-killer” at Rep. Bart Stupak.11
And after the vote, Sarah Palin told
supporters “Don’t Retreat—Reload,” and then
highlighted specific members of Congress she thinks are politically vulnerable
using gun cross-hairs.12
The
Tea Party movement has been marked by racially inflammatory and violent
outbursts since its inception a year ago. And while most Republicans are
probably disgusted by this behavior, the Republican Party and its leaders have
repeatedly tolerated it at events they support.13 But the hateful rhetoric and the tacit acceptance of
“isolated incidents” of violence have gotten way out of hand.
Will
you sign our letter to the leaders of the Republican Party telling them they
must stop it now?
Thanks
for all you do.

“The Republicans have been pure venom. Theirs was a systematic fearmongering, a nonstop bombardment of misguiding….
Posted by sillymickel in History on March 27, 2010
From www.huffingtonpost.com:
On Nov. 22, 1963, just as we learned President Kennedy had been
murdered down in Dallas, half the kids in my high-school English class
in suburban Oklahoma City stood up and cheered. A few cried.
When I tell people this now, often and understandably, they think I’m
making it up. I’m not. I’ve asked fellow Army brats whose families were
also stationed in Oklahoma and Texas if they had the same experience in
their Southwestern schools. All of them said yes. JFK was hated by many
people in that part of the country, and probably still is.
So, I’ve seen this kind of ugliness and viciousness before. Just not outside Oklahoma/Texas politics.
The Fox News crowd has gone well beyond the bounds of common decency
recently, and we shouldn’t let any of these merchants of hate forget
that they’ve left a permanent stain on our democracy after their
disgraceful tactics and countless lies during the health-care debate.
Quoted: “The Republicans have been pure venom. Theirs was a systematic
fearmongering, a nonstop bombardment of misguidings and untruths, an
acid bath of panic overlaid with a fine sheen of racism and rage. This
is turning out to be easily the nastiest, meanest GOP organization in
ages, the house that Karl Rove built, a group shaming their own party’s
once-noble legacy.
And: “Like millions, I was fairly convinced it simply could not get
much worse or more acrimonious than when Dubya ran the nation into the
ground, embarrassing and humiliating us planetwide a thousand times
over as the rogue idiot pseudo-cowboy laughingstock war-hungry prick of
the civilized world. I was wrong.”

HEROES UNDER ATTACK

Friend —
We need to act. On Sunday night, many Congressional Democrats in tough districts cast courageous votes for health reform — even though they knew that insurance companies and their Republican allies would retaliate immediately. Well, the attacks are here. Shameful, negative ads have already hit the airwaves. Democratic offices have been vandalized. Republicans are promising to repeal reform and smearing those who supported it. But we’re ready to do what it takes to defend the heroes who made health reform possible. These are the men and women who stood with us and the President to make good on a promise that our Party has fought to deliver for a century. And we will not leave them hanging out to dry. Please chip in $5 or more to defend those in Congress who fought to make health reform possible? These are the people who worked hand in hand with President Obama and grassroots Democrats to finally bring affordable coverage to 32 million more Americans, enact the toughest insurance regulations in history, and bring down costs for families, small businesses, and our government. At a time of historic achievement for our country, Republicans and the extreme right wing are responding by pushing fear and intimidation. They’ve launched a campaign to “fire” Nancy Pelosi, complete with imagery of the first female Speaker of the House surrounded by flames. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter had a brick thrown through her office window. A Virginia blog posted Congressman Tom Perriello’s home address, urging tea partiers to “drop by.” The Democratic National Committee is already fighting back hard, with a sophisticated ad strategy, events on the ground, and the best rapid-response program in the history of politics. But we need your help to keep it up. Please chip in $5 or more: http://my.democrats.org/Heroes If we learned one thing from the fight for health reform, it’s this: Hope can triumph over fear, the truth can beat out the most vicious of lies, and our movement, organized, can overcome even the most powerful of opponents. Let’s not stop now. Thanks,Governor Tim Kaine |

Enough rhetoric. Let yourself feel this.
This is under the category of “politics.”
What could be more important than puncturing the Republican myth that the Democrats are just as corrupt as them?
People need to know that there is a solution.
People need to know that there are good guys and there are bad guys.
Paranoids will always attack EVERYTHING. Paranoids will not know that
there are good people, people that are just like them, could be one of
their neighbors, and they are working hard for the good of all, not for
the good of corporations or their own wallets. They are called
Democrats. And they are working under the threat of violence.
Wake up. There IS a difference.
Cynicism, the idea that there are no good politicians, that there are
no good public figures, is the sibling of comfortable, know-it-all,
egotism.
