How to Turn Being Into Becoming and Good Into Wonderful: Forgetting Brings Delight to Getting and Becoming Human Is God’s Play

We Remove the Essence of Divinity from Our Ideas of the Divine

imetrwertageschrist 1The point is that we keep removing the essence of Divinity—Experience—from all our depictions of Divinity, guaranteeing we will be wrong. Wrong, and even end up getting the opposite idea. We turn living Spirit into emotionless icon and end up worshiping, even emulating, the very things that our holy people exhort us to look away from.

sad-eckhart

jesus_suffering2Jesus_Healing_Blind_01_210pxEven the thing we know most about Christ’s life is His suffering, yet is that nothing? In meditation folks try to empty their minds and become blank and emotionless, but yet Christ suffered and that is hardly nothing … let alone emotionless. We sure don’t like suffering, but it is hardly boring. This man suffered, healed, taught, hung out with folks, threw money-changers out of a temple. He may not have been “political” but he was hardly passive. He didn’t sit at home, trying to “empty his mind,” did he?

jesus-money-changers-570x313

What a Rip-Off!

And then we say He suffered for us … so that we don’t have to.

Well, what a bunch of hooey, because, that would be like saying God became God so that He could prevent us from becoming God. It’s like saying we get to have a boring life and can be dumb and unenlightened and not learn from our experiences or grow, because, well, Jesus did all that for us!

It’s such a rip off, it’s like He gets to feel, He gets to really live life, but we don’t….

How to Turn Good Into Wonderful

we-are-notThe point is…when you are God…and you’ve had so many lifetimes … tripping out as an animal and such nothumansmahadevshiva_thumb_thumband knowing your sense of Reality and all else … and knowing that it is like a movie … Don’t you think … at some point….

I mean, after all you’re God, and you know there’s nothing, nothing, nothing that could ever harm you…or harm anyone. Nothing…nobody ever gets harmed. And everybody always gets loved, and it can’t help but happen always that way. It can’t help but happen always that way because there’s nothing outside of that Truth-Awareness-Bliss-Love.

So, don’t you think that God might…

What Is More Alive for Someone Who’s Nothing But Good?

487452_155199664620103_1996148421_n_thumb561122_4590595203775_1542758755_n_thumbWould anybody crave sameness? Why would anybody crave a death-like pall of an existence? No! We all crave what? TO BE ALIVE! MORE ALIVE!! There is a reason that the worst thing that we imagine in life, death, is depicted as something rotting, boring, uneventful…. Is it not possible that in abhorring what we think is non-existence we are sensing the real and true values of Divinity? Life, aliveness, vitality, change, exuberance, freedom, magnificence, euphoria, expansiveness… are these not values that would have to be associated with Divinity?

we-crave-to-be-more-alive

And what is more alive for someone who’s nothing but good?

Hopeful Sadness? Seriously?

tearsforthelost_thumb487085_405457372846821_2017737770_nWouldn’t Divinity be more alive by putting a “frame” around that goodness to give it a kind of a contrast so it can be more beautiful? Think of all of the things that happen in life out of pain, and the things that we all pull ourselves to, consciously or not.

Remember the poignancy I spoke of. Would there be such a feeling, would there ever be poignancy if there wasn’t like hopeless sadness? If we had hopeful sadness, we’d never even have the experience of poignancy.

poignant

Do you see that only by forgetting who we are can we really live life, be really in it, grow in it, change in it. True, it is scary as hell. But the thing is, we all…live through it!

What Do You Call God When He’s Bungee Jumping? Answer: Human

euphoriagirlhappinessjumpjumpingoffacliffrisk-46824072d9eed59244faef612910c0c4_m_thumb1It’s kind of like when you’re bungee jumping. Say, you’re bungee jumping off a bridge. You’re sure you’re gonna die. But you’ve been convinced that all the materials, all the equipment, are safe and sound…that you’ll be secure, that nothing bad whatsoever will happen to you.

So what do you do? Having complete faith in the people doing it and the materials and the strength of them, you do it even though you’re thinking it’s certain you’re gonna die! You have all the fears in the world. It’s you doing peek-a-boo again, only this time with yourself. You’re trying to prove to yourself that God will be always there to catch you.

istockphoto_4971968-peek-a-boo-girl1jumpfrombldgintofiremanarms_thumbAnd you do prove it to yourself.

But the only thing is, we as God do it one better when we come into this world as a human….

We forget…that the “rope” is good.

Forgetting Brings Delight to Getting

381366_368154806595724_1314351731_n1We just throw ourselves off and let ourselves forget that it is certain we will be just fine and that instead of dying it will be fun, that it will in fact be a blast… even if only in retrospect. Or, more accurately, in overspect.

jumpoffrock_thumbWe throw ourselves off, we come into this world, hoping…knowing! knowing that at some point we will remember, before we die, that there is never anything to fear and who we really are. We know we will remember because we know we’re never really gonna die…you’re never gonna die…. You will go from one lifetime to another and will think you die, but it is impossible to end consciousness.

408237_435382236508059_1877189395_n

So we know we’re going to succeed, at some point or other. We know we’re going to remember who we are as divinity and the incredible magnificence of this game that WE have chosen to do for an adventure and as an experiment in consciousness.

And we also know, when we throw ourselves into diminished consciousness, that is, into physical form, that we are going to experience things that we have never ever experienced before…. and that we may never want to experience again.

How to Turn Being Into Becoming

peek-a-boo_thumb1_thumbYou might say that if God is eternal and unchanging and Real that there are no experiences that are not already. homepageYou might say that beingness is not becomingness. Yes, we can look at it that way. Then we can understand it better by thinking of it this way: Have you ever seen a movie or a TV show or play a second time, after a very long time, and have forgotten so much of it that in experiencing it all over again it is as much fun and as en-joy-able as the first time? The joy of experience is amplified by forgetting. That is, when life is approached as a revelation, from the stance that it is ever new, it is more delightful. THAT is how one makes the good into the wonderful.

God Invents Joy by Forgetting.

So, you see that forgetting has its uses in terms of magnifying enjoyment, pleasure, fun. Again, it is a form of peek-a-boo. By keeping something hidden from few, forgotten, it is more pleasurable, even joyous, when once again it is seen to exist!

poignant-butterfly-rhonda-depalma

poignant-reunion_356x489poignancySo, you might say that becoming human is the way we, as God, play. It is the way we magnify delight and bring joy into existence. And to do that God needs to forget, to forget who She is.

God needs to create darkness to glorify the light. She needs to invent pain to put the edge of delight in pleasure. She has to create separation and division … she has to become multiple … to bring out the beauty of Love and Unity and to create the drama of re-union.

150984_105276842983844_1366135514_n

God makes Love brighter and more exquisite by making it poignant … by mixing it with loss. She makes having so much better by losing and so setting up the magnificent experience of getting … all over again.

These are the strangest of days. We live in a time in which ending our species in our lifetime, even eliminating all life on this planet, are very real possibilities. The awareness of this acceleration toward an “end of days” — while so horrifying that we are in denial of it and hardly speak it — hangs over us and affects us in ways singular and fantastic.

309711_322333121211824_69159595_n

This book — Apocalypse No, Apocalypse or Earth Rebirth and the Emerging Perinatal Unconscious — awakens us to the unique character of our times. There are powerful factors and unconscious influences erupting into our world now which are changing the Earth and us in radical ways … for good and ill. This unprecedented era in history is rife with the perinatal, that is, with repressed memories locked into us arising from our experiences of birth. We see that our impending apocalypse has to do with birth feelings, birth trauma — an emerging perinatal unconscious.

bomvvherghlvqgeyabpunx02o1_500_thumb1

Herein is revealed the underbelly of our modern world and life and the impetus behind our self-destruction. We see primal forces arising and exposed. We begin to understand how and why this is happening now. Knowing this gives us the power to do something about our dire situation. Finally, we can direct our attention to the roots of our drive to apocalypse and reverse it.

poignant-butterfly-rhonda-depalma

More than that, this awakening provides a way of transformation for ourselves. For we see that in the heart of this darkness we are bringing down upon us lies the most incredible opportunity for taking a leap beyond what we think of as human nature. This time calls for a new hero’s cycle — one that leaves behind the thuggishness of the old one. We are lifted beyond ourselves in a higher calling and a transcendent yet deeply rooted spirituality.

1236300_448461348601743_1828853488_nwe-are-then-simple-awareness1

We realize that the necessary answer to the dilemma of apocalypse or Earth rebirth lies, not only in the resurrection of a new Earth, but in the dawning of a new self as well.

1239522_10201853994936572_96883098_n

We will either heroically, somehow, save our species and our planet, which will require a change of our human nature unlike anything that has been asked of our species ever before, or we will be witnesses to the elimination of life on this planet in some way that we cannot imagine but can only be horrific in the extreme. This book is about facing, not denying, the uniquely dire character of our times and finding out what it says about us and requires of us.

occupyfff-earth

There is much here to see, and so much of it the mainstream would never touch for fear of creating a panic. Still, to survive our species must face our problems, not look away. And there is a nobility in doing that, which is unlike any kind of nobility or heroism that has been asked of our species before.

64670_428308870569977_1091199249_n

However, this time brings with it an advantage and opportunity also unprecedented: Never before has it been more clear what is right and what is wrong, what is worthwhile and what is not, what is life … what, death, and what is noble and what evil. At no other time has a higher calling or a path of true nobility of soul been more visible. To align oneself with this cause lifts one out of oneself and one’s petty concerns into a heady and invigorating life purpose. We might die in our efforts. There is every likelihood that we will be unable to reverse our dire trajectory. Still, should that occur, those who face and take up this challenge will not suffer the agony of regretting that one could have done something but did not.

1005761_10151845443568628_1159298871_n

On the other hand, though we will need many noble souls to reverse our current downslide into oblivion, it is possible that simply a significant fraction of the world’s population—like the “leaven in the dough”—can make all the difference in the world, literally, by tipping our course one way as opposed to another, especially if these people—because of their healing and their awareness of the crisis—are motivated to place themselves in positions of influence and education, or to put their efforts toward healing, on individual and collective levels, in larger numbers than the average populace would. In other words, not just the leaven in the dough but as persons, standing in the right place and with the lever big enough, who can move the world. I hope, for the sake of us all, that you are one of those heroes.

Our Divine Adventure in Forgetfulness Has Us Misunderstanding the Pain We Give Ourselves to Wake Up: Experience Is Divinity, Part Six — The Poignancy of It All

exquisiteness-of-it-all

The Perfection of It All and More Tugging on Your Umbilical Cords to Yourselves as Divinity: If God Is All There Is, and She Can’t Be on Her Side, Who Can?

429065_409453482467323_646452574_n

Recipe for Game of Humanness: Take Equal Parts Emptiness and Stupidity…

So we’ve got a game that has components of total emptiness and utter royal stupidity, which allows a belief that death is both an end to life and that it is painful. Don’t we believe that? Well, that’s not the truth. But that’s what we come to believe. That death is an end, and a painful one, to our lives is what we come to believe coming into human form. [Footnote 1].

ss-110129-egypt-18.ss_full

Add a Belief in a Death…

Think of it. We have a game that has components of total emptiness and utter royal stupidity which allows a belief that death is both an end of life, and that it is painful. And that it is terrifyingly real, and terrifying because there is that darkness beyond it which…aaaaas usual!…all the yet unprojected interesting details of this temporary creation of God, this ego, can be viewed like on a movie screen. And lacking the fundamental truth that it is just a movie, well, the parameters of this game allow for the most terrifying, most extreme feelings of any kind that is possible.

welcome-to_-bonestripper_thumb

Many of you are no doubt thinking, “Why would God do and make such a hideous possibility?”

Well, remember that, just like the baby, no matter what its fears, is lovingly taken care of by its mother, we are also by Divinity. We are completely in the “hands” of Divinity. As it is said, “Not a blade of grass moves in the wind unless God wills it.”

So the fears and all the darkness are only experiences…they’re just feelings. That means that they are not permanent, having no substance or foundation—like the reality of truth-awareness-bliss does. Now that reality—of truth-awareness-bliss—is not going to change, ever. It is What Is. However, experiences, feelings are fleeting, impermanent, ultimately not real.

538943_2997155348309_321971331_n1

If God Is All There Is, and She Can’t Be on Her Side, Who Can?

And why is this difference crucial? Let’s take an example. Let us say your cat was to lodge itself under a porch, which if it stayed there it would die. Would you hesitate to drag that cat out no matter how much it screeched and struggled? Because you knew you were taking care of that cat, you would do it.

oh-hell-no

Well, that is kind of the way sometimes we have to be treated by God. It is kind of the way we being God have to treat ourselves who are in forgetfulness of that fact. Because, actually to our credit, we have chosen quite an adventure—one with forgetfulness that is allowing all kinds of things to happen that animals cannot experience. But being in forgetfulness we would lose our way back unless we helped ourselves out. And God loves God (God IS Love). So we love ourselves and we are going to help ourselves out… even if it seems to us as forgetful humans that what we are giving ourselves is pain and discomfort, not help.

561058_3945391267554_695040208_n

There Are No Wrong Adventures

391768_3052183483978_2088528074_nBut sometimes we choose such an adventure or we see others have chosen adventures that just seem so horrible and wrong that it is impossible to believe a Divine would choose them. But we must remember we are judging these lives and experiences from the view 199706_344732748948898_302708152_n1of our limited selves—our selves that are in forgetfulness of our nature as Divinity. So in such a state how could we possibly have any inkling at all of what Divinity would want and why?

There are no wrong adventures. It just seems to deluded humans there are. From the perspective of Divinity, we see that there are always reasons, profound and beautiful ones, for everything that happens and all that exists. Everything is truly perfect … even in its seeming imperfection.

262716_479678268741921_2022947364_n

I am going to attempt to give you a look at that: How things can be perfect even in their painful or horribleness. Let me continue. It will all come together, you’ll see.

536629_223926147737769_761862506_n

The Poignancy of It All

Getting back to that metaphor of peek-a-boo: For the baby, Mommy’s face disappears … who knows where? There is concern, distress. Where did it go? Then Momma’s face is suddenly there and everything is bright, beautiful, even more wonderful and joyous than if it had never gone away. For the baby’s appreciation of Mother is heightened by being reminded of the experience of what it is like for her not to be there. You know the saying, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Indeed, sometimes people in relationships perform a sort of peek-a-boo on each other—usually unconsciously—to keep the spice, to keep that edge of feeling, that poignancy, in their love for each other. Keep these things in mind, now.

And remember that in the baby’s experience of peek-a-boo, the darkness that the baby feels—the whatever…the feeling of loss—it’s not permanent; it has no substance or foundation.

nevermind2b-2bemily2blitella_thumb

pranhicThe only substance out there that is true is that of Truth-Awareness-Bliss. These other things are fleeting. 55387cffAnd we don’t remember it now in human form, but most of Time of the timelessness of the Now, in which we exist—except for like going off on adventures like this human life in which we create time—we spend in that Truth-Awareness-Bliss.

If you are getting an inkling of the beauty of all this, you might see the perfect poignancy of such a game.

64670_428308870569977_1091199249_n

316857_484532944898766_1680109184_n1There are so many other ways to describe its exquisiteness, too. I will use your own truth to bring you to an appreciation of this.

Ok, we’re all God…pretending not to be.

268217_447167825322871_358388005_n2Remembering how peek-a-boo works—for a baby or for ourselves in our continuous cycles of forgetfulness and remembrance in life, there is a part of it that we humans always overlook. No doubt we fail always to see it, because it is actually God, and is the only thing that can be God….

I realize that makes no sense to you at all: Where there is God in peek-a-boo or in the things as Divinities we put ourselves through in life—the cycles of pain and then wisdom and awakening that comes from it—sounds outrageous I’m sure. But just continue listening….

558597_429302617107287_338213544_n

This Is the Way, the Teacher, and the Path.

561016_2407963495293_237412491_nThere is no physical world that exists. We know that. Even our sciences reveal that. And there are no words that are anything but a way to block out the vision of essence. So you cannot expect to find God hidden in either the physical world or inside the chaos of our words.

But there is one thing, one thing always that exists, is always present, that contains everything, and that is everything. And it is also the teacher, the path, the way…the way back to remembering … the way out of the 408309_1764639612598_1737376259_863778_1611513471_n418653_458005347555045_1980902545_ndarkness…the fear…or any of the more adventurous aspects of reality.

poignant-reunion_356x489I’ll get to it, but first notice I said adventurous, not negative, painful, or hard.

Let’s go back to that thing that you are God. And you cannot help but be on your side. So therefore what you experience is always going to steer you to understanding. Everything you experience has a purpose of getting you to realizing who you are and bringing you back eventually to your true nature. Would that not make sense? And if you look at your own life’s experiences, is that not what has happened? Is it not what got you here?

293242_2999899096901_860023520_n

So has it yet become clear from this that what I was saying just before about this thing that is overlooked in peek-a-boo, this thing which God is?

occupydenver-2_thumb

Forgetting Where You Put Yourself

499545812poignancyThe answer is that the experience of the baby is overlooked in the game. The baby goes through all kinds of states of feeling and experiencing of the various experiential flavors that this game of peek-a-boo affords; that is what is the most obvious thing in the game. The same thing happens in the game of life. Indeed, it is truly amazing that our human amnesia can leave out the essence of existence as we go about being blinded by these myriad and distracting physical things.

Footnote

1. How we end up believing in death being an end and it being painful while coming into our human form is explained in detail in my writings about our prenatal and perinatal traumas. A good deal of the book, Apocalypse—No! has to to with how our early traumas in the womb and at birth imprint us for life in ways that make us inordinately fearful and untrusting. See especially Apocalypse – No! Chapter Seven: “We Ain’t Born Typical”” and from there on.

Also, a good number of the Prasads of The Great Reveal deal with this subject of humans having a birth unique among planetmates that makes us inordinately fearful of pain and insecure. See especially The Great Reveal, Chapter Eleven: The Third Prasad – Humans Only Half Ready for Life at Birth and from there on.

monkeychildhands230147_213498702007602_182263958464410_775441_2260143_n

Apocalypse Emergency is about a frightening global predicament that everyone seems to be aware of, but which few people are giving the attention and seriousness it deserves. I talk about why people would do that, why the media would be inclined to shy away. Basically it’s understandable because we simply have no way of comprehending the magnitude of what is happening and how fast, since no living thing on this planet in its multibillion year history has had to face what we are.

I compare what is happening right now to cause planetary death in the relatively near future to a trillion-alarm fire with everyone looking the other way. I say you need to respond to this with the urgency of being in a world war, marshaling all available national and world resources to bear on it, and not with the complacency of a boy-scout litter pick up campaign.

I use spiritual fantasy and real world analogies to help us get a handle on what we’re facing. In jumping into these “waters,” I expected to be emotionally beat up. But instead I came to many understandings, and found I saw the positions of many who aren’t helping right now somewhat through their eyes, and found compassion, not blame.

The ending lifted me up in a way that I haven’t felt in a long time on this matter. I can only say that my long term study of humans—as a depth psychotherapist and as a student of other cultures across all time periods, that is, anthropology—informed my conclusions, shaped them, and took me to visions of possible futures that I did not expect, but seem, if not as likely, then at least as worthy of the human spirit as we deserve.

For all we’ve done it seems we have called down upon ourselves to be tested and to be found either worthy, or deserving of the grave we’re digging. However, facing dire challenges—and this being the most dire of all—brings out the best in Humans.

I left the piece feeling so much love and unity with all humans and living things, for I knew that at no other time in the history of the world was the truth of the saying “we’re all in this together” more patently true.

Apocalypse Emergency goes back and forth between the horrors that are possible and, well, let us say, this unique situation with the potential so strong to bring humans to raise themselves up and be led by their better angels more than any other time. What it will mean could be exciting and triumphant beyond belief as humans come out of their puerile adolescent phase and become united and shaped for millennia by this great struggle. We could also die trying our mightiest, which has a nobility to it.

Currently we are looking like the stupidest beings ever to dream the dream of thingness and duality.

It’ll be scary and interesting, and you’ll be helped if you have a strong faith in a Higher Power.

Beyond that, it will be the biggest adventure that the entire globe ever faced together, and the outcome could be just about anything.

If you care about your children, you’ll “man up,” “woman up,” “cowboy up,” whatever…anything but cover up…and face the horror, become the noble humans we are capable of being, and join with others to pull off the most heroic actions of all time.

Or else we’ll be deemed throughout the Universe as “suicidal ape,” and our portrait will be no different from Mars.

dancedeath1Chapter One: Eight Billion Neros Fiddling … It’s a Trillion-Alarm Fire, Not a Boy-Scout Litter Campaign

…I can’t believe the nonchalance around the huge environmental catastrophes that have gone on in just the last three years alone—specifically, the Gulf Oil Spill and the Fukushima Japan nuclear disaster. When the BP disaster was ongoing and gushing devastating amounts of oil into the Gulf, Donna Brazille, frustrated with the Obama Administration’s response to the Spill, fumed aloud, “Where is the fierce urgency of Now?!!!

When you get a call at work that your house is on fire, you rush home worrying about whether your family is alive or dead, what, if anything, remains of your precious keepsakes, and so on. And you don’t, this time, stop on the way home to have a short visit with your mother at the nursing home, grab a few things at the grocery store, or even fill up your tank at the gas station! YOU GO STRAIGHT HOME AND TRY TO SAVE YOUR FAMILY AND HOME! MORE….

loveyourmotherChapter Two: Love’s Wake-Up Call – Apocalypse Emergency

…I know there are others like myself right now attempting to wake up the noble spirited, the heroic among us, who once convinced will add whatever unique qualities God has blessed them to this once in a multibillions chance to be good, kind, brave, hard working, sympathetic, heartful, strong, God-loving, life embracing, laughter-, song-, and children-loving humans again.

To be humans again, not greedy beasts of prey with green in their eyes and their blood, who have been taking over this planet for several decades now, for idiotically selfish ends. So maddened are they, we have already seen the first incredible detonation of their unconcern for this planet—all God’s creatures on it, and even their own offspring—in this collapse of an entire global economic system in what seemed practically to be overnight in 2007. So insane they, we have seen the consequences of their greedy craving in the increasing radiation of the planet, through accidents like Fukushima, and the dying of the oceans—our oxygen source—with the Gulf Oil Spill. MORE….

0000apocalypseemergencyChapter Three: A Conversation on the Eve of Apocalypse

People are becoming zombies in the face of their death, their own upcoming suffering, not to mention the death of all life on this planet. Do an internet search on apocalypse and note how little, if anything, is posted about the urgency or emergency of our current situation.

It comes across as a big party on a South Pacific Island in a hotel that everyone there knows will not survive the incoming tsunami or killer hurricane. But in the meantime they’re drinking themselves silly, drugging…gonna party their way to the end. That is not a rational response to the end of all life.

Other responses on the apocalypse have machismo aspects to them. In fact, most sites about apocalypse have a macho message in common. MORE….

enrapturedreaction-crpd_thumbChapter Four: Death Wish – Zombies and Sad Proselytists

False bravado—as described in the last chapter—is the most insane response to our predicament, with one exception: That is, what I’m hearing is a kind of euphoria and longing for the end of it all in evangelical groups who think of it as the Rapture—a kind of being freed from what is seen as an onerous Earth existence and the reward of the true life one thinks one deserves of ease, love, and happiness in heaven.

Now, is that not the most extreme form of reaction formation you have ever heard? These folks have developed an elaborate, comforting fantasy to escape the facts of their lives. MORE….

ecocide-earth1_thumbChapter Five: Death Wish – Thanatos Walking

…Freud took it beyond our inner struggles and talked about how the events of the world, the actions and movements of history, and the dramas of all the ages are in fact the products of this inner struggle.

At this very moment, our lesser selves are taking us on a path that leads inevitably, one way or another, to total species extinction. But not just that, being the “overachieving” species we are, we are bringing total life extinction to this planet and possibly even planetary annihilation–the death of virtually all life on this Earth….

…we will continue to live, and we will become good citizens of this planet and our species will continue on?

Recipe for Game of Humanness — Take Equal Parts Emptiness and Stupidity … Add a Belief in a Death: Experience Is Divinity, Part Five — Life Is the Divine Playing Peek a Boo with Herself

becoming-human-is-universes-trippiest-game-god-forgets-herself

Evils Are Concoctions from the Minds of Forgetful Divinities: Since God Is All, and Is All Good, How Can Evil Exist Unless Divinity Forgets Who She Is?

how-can-God-be-devilish-unless-she-forgets-who-she-is-down-rabbit-hole

How Can God Be Devilish?

So it is only humans, forgetting their nature, who can conceive the incredible horror and act out the most hideous things possible.

humans-project-horror

But that also is part of the plan or game for humanness. For how could God act devilish and murderous unless He allowed Himself? Think about it.

And I know you’re saying, why would God want to act devilish and murderous? Ok, maybe I’m ahead of myself, but just hold that thought.

5292

How ’Bout if He Allowed Himself to Forget?

But say there was a reason. And I know you think there’s no reason—God is good, blah blah blah, lightness and light and all that; but just check this out now.

How could God act devilish and murderous if He wanted to, unless He allowed Himself, willingly, to totally forget who He is…that is, Goodness, Awareness, Bliss?

original

389335_10150741534982477_261144863_nLet’s remember that there is no such thing as death. It’s another impossibility. For God is All, and always existing. And all things that seem to be actual things and therefore separate are actually only variations on the One and Only Reality… I say reality, I won’t even say one and only thing or form, for they are illusions, too; they are Illusory props of the game.

It’s simple when you know. But knowing requires seeing or apprehending accurately. And the point of this game as humans is that seeing so clearly is impossible, as we are filled with the illusory. Totally wiping the God consciousness of knowledge, of its foundation, source, whatever, allows a kind of vacuum into which anything can crawl, in which anything can respond…in which the most obvious untruths are allowed to dominate the play of the game as if they were more than just the smoke they are.

It Is the Greatest Adventure

So it is the greatest adventure, fraught with the greatest possibilities of extreme fear, terror, and so on.

only-fake-darkness

In this way God, who is not darkness, creates darkness. Now why would She want to do that?

Remember, that the darkness She creates is only fake darkness. Remember peek-a-boo? The baby’s alarmed…but he was wrong.

If you think of the nature of peek-a-boo…of what is happening, what is involved…. If you’re starting to see that, you’re starting to get it.

peek-a-boo-4f288fc13b1ff

God Playing Peek-a-Boo with Himself

Peek_a_Boo_by_punkviciousSo, you see, God cannot possibly be darkness, but in this way He does create it. Now, you ask, why would He do that? I’ll get to that specifically. But for now just think of it as like allowing a game of peek-a-boo in which one does not recognize one’s mother even when she’s in plain sight. So imagine the baby’s cries and traumas then! Imagine: Mommy’s not there, mommy’s there, and the baby still thinks mommy’s not there!

So, it is this total amnesia of the game of humanness that creates the possibility of not even knowing that—not knowing God is actually there … impossible to be anywhere else—even, even when not seen. This amnesia creates the possibilities of even more extreme…oh, how can I say…more intense pain. The baby becomes totally convinced that indeed momma is gone forever…and that he is totally alone, and must live without love…so surely he will die!

still-thinks-not_-there_thumb1

Indeed this does describe the state of many a human when in a state of total forgetfulness if you think about it. For, staring directly into the face of God, so to speak, he can be so overcome with fear as to only see the relatively tiny sliver of unique attributes that he, as God, has decided to adopt for this particular game of being in the world, as a human.

screen-life

It Was in Front of You the Whole Time!

What I’m saying is this total amnesia unique to humans allows for the possibility, unlike any other game, where such fear can be held, that you can totally forget the face of God even when it’s right in front of you. The source of comfort is right in front of you, and all you can see is yourself.

speech-4

trobriandAnd by that I mean you can see yourself, not you as God, but you as the unique creation that you created yourself so as to try an experiment. Because every, every living thing is an experiment in creation. And so it’s those little things—things that make us different—that might be the only thing we’d see. As humans, most of the time, we don’t see God or even Reality except the parts of them that happen to mirror the limited self we chose to manifest, especially the parts of that self that are hidden to us. So that’s another part of it.

index_01_thumb

So, the adventure of humanness is such a fascinating game. For it allows darkness and hideousness, and war … murder … torture! … all that we abhor to exist. However, keep in mind that the fact that we abhor these evils—these concoctions from the minds of forgetful divinities—is a sign that we are finding some roots in our true nature which is light and goodness.

awakening-is-taking-place-allow-it

Why We Create Hell and Satan

This game even allows the creation of a belief in the opposite of truth … truth being no thing, except goodness, light, and bliss. It allows that humans, in their forgetfulness, and in their fear, existing without a glimmer of real truth, to conjure the opposite! So, a hell is concocted, and even an opposite of God, a Satan.

carnival5_thumb

Footnote

“The Only Way Out Is All the Way In”: The Eye of the Hurricane, The Cosmic Adventure, and Being Here … Why Would Reality Not Be Real?

430718_225071164289934_1519642535_n

Such it is that we can be in the midst of life, fully experiencing it, and yet be aware of its illusionary quality, hence be unattached to it and more able to flow with it. Let us say “Zorba the Buddha.”

307521_245374475592936_1761618271_n

The Eye of the Hurricane

From this view we see that it is our attitude toward intense experiences, not whether or not we have them, that is important. The I Ching addresses this in the hexagram, “The Arousing (Shock/Thunder)”: “[T]he shock causes no loss, because one takes care to stay in the center of the movement and in this way to be spared the fate of being tossed hither and thither” (p.200).

eye_of_the_storm_by_freaknumber41-d56x7b5

“The Only Way Out Is All the Way In”

18108_519324861411937_1438199268_nOne is reminded of Heider’s statement that new members of a group may be badly frightened in viewing another member who, in the midst of catharsis, feels no feelings of fear about it (1974, p.37). Or, as one primaler put it, “It is not feeling one’s feelings that is really painful” (cf. Janov, 1970, pp. 98-99). Thus, by plunging in and surrendering to it, one can be aware of a calm center within the chaos that is imperceptible on the periphery. Or, in another primaler’s words, “The only way out is all the way in.”

within-is-outside

Again, Be the Observer

230px-NatarajaHAforsaleThus, it is a matter of whether or not we get caught up in intense experiences and make them part of a personal drama … “acting out” is the primal way of saying it … or we simply allow them to flow through us. In the first case, we give these feelings a status in our lives they do not deserve and increase the time required to work through them; in the second, we maintain an attitude as of a channel for experience, not an originator of it.

zorba-the-greek-full

Cosmic Adventure

In this regard, we note Grof’s statement that at advanced levels of transpersonal experience, beyond ego death and rebirth, “it becomes . . . a cosmic adventure in consciousness aimed at solving the riddles of personal identity, human existence, and the universal scheme” (1980, p. 215). Or in other words, we still carry water, but we are not attached to it.

cc_nonviolence

Process Is Process

Therefore, I am saying that much has been made of a difference between primal and meditation for what is primarily a difference in technique. Both can be seen as ways of attuning us to a spiritual/growth process that is common to us all, affecting our daily happenings and the life choices and directions we take in either direct or distorted fashion.

Meditation Is Technique. It Is not the Process Itself

For meditation the confusion seems to have arisen from viewing it as the sole means to growth, rather than simply a means to get in touch with a process that is growthful both inside and outside of meditation. And when we open up, what arises always is different from what we expect and includes all sorts of phenomena and experiences, all linked to our growth and resolving our blocks.

387765_308339679179024_203799022966424_1348799_1719099873_n

Primal Aids Learning Surrender

Likewise, an important benefit of primal is that it can teach us an attitude of surrender to process. That we can throw ourselves, time and again, into the maelstrom of catharsis and still, somehow, be upheld and even embraced, despite ourselves, gives us confidence in a beneficent universe and allows us to foster surrender in our attitudes to the pushes and pulls of process as it makes itself known to us in our daily life.

let-go-let-god10035-sam-and-frodo-samwise-gamgee-10556837-1024-768-2

Being Here

Both meditation and primal can be seen as techniques to help us “be” where we are “at.” And to be most fully where we are means to be most fully in process. So it is just that at times they employ different means to get us in touch with the underlying flow that is the epigenetic protagonist of healing and creation, growth and transcendence.

silent-unaffected-self-within

And once attuned to process, one can “be here” while working, walking, primaling, or engaging in “zazen”; it then becomes ludicrous to talk of different techniques or different levels of growth. Ultimately, when we are “on track” the process takes over, leading us onward to more encompassing realms, regardless of how we get on track.

554282_4567483618247_172729566_n

Evidence for this is given by meditation research as cited by Earle (1981). Although physiological correlates differ with different techniques at beginning levels, later stages show a convergence of the correlates.

562875_260990550687s230_869320521_n

The Psyche Heals Itself

… If Allowed to Do So

There are striking similarities in the descriptions of the deep-level growthful experiences found in the spiritual literature, the psychedelic literature, the ethnographic literature, and in some of our primal reports. But what we find, in primal anyway, is that the psyche “heals” itself, if only allowed to do so, and in a way that is reminiscent of the way the body does. And so it is not so surprising that the manner in which it does so would be so similar in different places, at different times, and using different techniques for allowing it.

578505_205002759630108_1920849087_n

Why Would Reality Not Be Real?

It is equally not surprising that we should find examples of spiritual phenomena occurring during primaling or “primal” phenomena occurring during meditation, or either occurring under LSD. For why would we expect to have anything but a common heritage and for reality to be other than itself? Is it not only our dichotomizing mind that construes such dualities to obscure and make more difficult the path that we commonly tread, that tragically serves to neutralize the compassion and interrelatedness that we would otherwise feel?

259958_226823254114725_1442061891_n

The Agonies and Ecstasies of Exquisiteness

The point being made is that the primal process of which we speak is the same as the spiritual process. Both catharsis and calmness are natural parts of the same flow, mingling and alternating with each other, and emanating from each other, sometimes in a linear way. This flow is a natural process of creation that encompasses both types of phenomena, the agonies and ecstasies of existence, and harmonizes all of reality, both internal and external, in a pattern that is unique for every individual and oriented toward one’s patient unfolding in the path of exquisiteness.

199386_206961422767575_972486350_n

Summary of “A Primal Perspective on Spirituality”

Contrary to Janov’s assertion that spiritual experience is derivative of primal pain, there is evidence that primalers are encountering transpersonal phenomena at a deeper level of the primal process. I relied on my experiences and those of other long-term primalers, along with the evidence of meditation and LSD research and the current spiritual literature, in proposing an alternative explanation of the relationship between catharsis and spiritual process in which they are seen as complementary, not opposed, processes.

248840_227129594084091_152689210_n

At a certain level of the spiritual process “primal-type” experiences often occur, no matter how interpreted. A primal-type therapy, therefore, can be an invaluable, perhaps indispensable, aid in higher consciousness. Primal therapy reduces the symbolic clutter and cerebral “noise” that characteristically obscure the perception of spiritual realities. It thereby enables spiritual access that would be unavailable to some people conceived into less than ideal life situations. Beyond the primal-type levels of the spiritual process, deeper levels are encountered that do not give indications of containing elements of repressed pain or need, and that can be accurately termed transpersonal.

182532_545849632097406_2004234766_n

Therefore, primal therapy and meditation represent an identity of ends and an antithesis of means. Both catharsis and meditation are techniques to help us to “be” where we are “at” and thereby to be more fully in a “process” that transcends techniques. For “when we are ‘on track,’ the process takes over, leading us onward to more encompassing realms, regardless of how we get ‘on track.'”

The Big Primal ~ Instant Satori

Buddha enlightenmentAnother perspective on this subject is suggested by Heider (1974). He says that an emphasis on catharsis is rooted in “a model of growth and transcendence based on the concept of the sudden satori” (p.41), which is considered unrealistic. It is true that this situation existed among many primalers. Many of us initially, and in line with Janov’s assertions, did assume this dependence on and/or expectation of the “big primal”: 297289_219836374813413_1020054870_nthe primal that would make it all different and change our lives forever. In fact, letting go of this expectation began to be seen as a mark distinguishing advanced from beginning primalers. More experienced primalers began to see primal as a tool, not an end in itself. We began to see ourselves as growing and living both inside and outside of our primaling, and to see feelings as going on all the time, not just when we were lying down and “catharting.”

.

.

541025_245376535592730_674755363_n

…if we do not “be” with our illusions, we cannot know them…

The initial confusion, however, is understandable, considering the inaccurate impression engendered by the early primal that all feeling that is not primaling is somehow unreal. jesus20at20gethsemaneThis myth serves to negate all that passes through one and all that one feels between primal experiences. Janov was trying to make a point, and an important one at that: Much of what goes on inside one’s self is, in fact, elements of primal complexes and therefore is not accurate perceptions of self, others, and world. But an important facet to this is that it remains important to “be” with all that material, whether objectively valid or not, in order that one may link it all together and have the connections and insights that can occur during those catalyzing events called primals. For if we do not “be” with our illusions, we cannot know them. Hence, how can we discard them?

.

tears_0

Certainly the awesomeness of some forms of catharsis, the energy release involved, helps one to downplay the significance of the in-between times. But subsequently such plateau or calm spots, preparation or postcathartic periods, even the activities of our daily life, took on an importance previously unacknowledged. We began to understand that it is not a matter of catharsis for catharsis’s sake, or just of emptying one’s “Primal Pool,” in Janov’s terms.

302759_230999363697114_1470884553_n

In that sense I am in agreement with Heider’s (1974, p. 41) direction in leaving an emphasis on catharsis and beginning “to rely heavily upon spiritual disciplines, both as preparation for the release of tension and as a maintenance program designed to enhance and prolong the desirable effects of the encounter experience.” For, using meditation in the sense that Rajneesh (1976) does, that of being with where one is in the here and now, it makes perfect sense to me that a spiritual regimen can and should be used during the in-between times to help us to stop and be aware of the continuing process within us, if that is what it takes.

536409_212235448906839_1051537751_n

Being Where One Is

An important sidelight, however, is that for many primalers this sort of structuring may be unnecessary. As mentioned, the results of primaling, in the postcathartic period, may be the same as the results of meditation. Consequently, for many advanced primalers access is only too apparent during the between times. Therefore, to “be” where one is often only requires that we leave off avoiding, through distracting ourselves in work, sex, alcohol, drugs, food, and various other ways, the primal/spiritual process that continues within us between sessions. At this point it becomes a matter of staying open to Experience/Process, allowing it to flow through and teach us.

we-have-seen-ourselves

Meditation Can Be Anti-Spiritual

In fact, there is the known danger in using a spiritual technique that it can be used to defend against “process.” As Epstein and Leiff (1981, p. 145) put it, “Meditation experiences may be used in both adaptive and defensive ways.” And a meditation that is used solely to force us into relaxation or into a concentration with a specific focus as a way to defend against “process” and the occasional peaks and valleys that are part of it would, in my opinion, be antiprimal, indeed would be antispiritual, antimystical, antigrowth.

526916_230999860363731_1978819541_n

Zorba the Buddha

The-Atonement-of-Jesus-Christ-Landing-2011-01-24Therefore, in general I agree with Heider’s shift in emphasis away from catharsis and to the postcathartic period, but not nearly to the extent to which he apparently has. For I do not see a need to “transcend” catharsis or go “beyond” it as he does. Certainly Grof, Muktananda, E23439Pic13374and others would concur that even the outer reaches of transpersonal experience do not entail a cessation of conflict, resolution, growing, and learning. Similarly, Epstein and Leiff (1981, p. 144) have pointed out that “meditation can be viewed as a developmental process which can produce side effects anywhere along the continuum,” and so one would wonder why we would leave off catharsis as a tool for dealing with such blocks.

Eye_of_the_Storm3_07

Ecstasy Is Intensity … What is so Alive About Being Machine-Like?

asfadfa553096_245884038875313_518942495_nI should point out that the experience of nearly all primalers is that the need to cathart becomes less as time goes on. But additionally, I do not see a need to posit a point beyond catharsis, for I do not see anything wrong with catharsis, with enjoying the capacity to experience intensity of ecstasy, desolation, or insight. It seems to me that this capacity can add color and vitality to our lives. Indeed, it may be that which, at times, makes us feel we are alive!

475px-rembrandt_christ_in_the_storm_on_the_sea_of_galilee-web_thumbBut Heider certainly does find something wrong with catharsis, and our differences bring up an important point. He points out that he left off inducing catharsis because of post cathartic depression that would ensue. it is my opinion that occasional catharsis can have just that sort of effectGrofChristStan_StormySearchicon if we acknowledge the depths of primal and perinatal phenomena extending all the way back through birth and womb material. Therefore, anything short of a thorough working through of these deeper levels always will leave one susceptible to relapses, postcathartic depressions, and return of symptoms in that these catharses represent further access as well as resolution.

To that extent, I believe that Heider has not gone far enough with catharsis to those areas where the most substantial gains can be made … although even then we can expect”relapses”happiness if we employ the model that Grof, among others, presents of “enlightenment” being an attitude toward the process of becoming, of adventuring deeper into the cosmos, rather than a static serene state of inaction. Grof has shown us how deep one often must go before one can expect real resolution; or, in other words, just how deep within us, and how far into our past, the roots of our present concerns extend.

Spock is Hardly a Role Model for Spirituality

we-seek-to-keep-out-these-filthy-others448 Saint Spock webA passage from the I Ching may help to clarify this point. It is possible that because of our Appolonian Western heritage we have a tendency to view an unaffected, somehow undisturbable state … as in our common conceptions of the results of meditation … as a goal. But not all cultures and spiritual disciplines posit it as such. In the Wilhelm/Baynes classic translation of the ancient work it is written,

While Buddhism strives for rest through an ebbing away of all movement in nirvana, the Book of Changes holds that rest is merely a state of polarity that always posits movement as its complement” (p.201).

534540_225072210956496_1863331824_n

Apparently, an unmovable state is seen as neither desirable nor possible; it is indicative of death rather than greater life.

themotionpicture0094

It continues further on:

True quiet means keeping still when the time has come to keep still, and going forward when the time has come to go forward.

800px-1610_Cecco_del_Caravaggio_Christ_expulses_money_changers_anagoria

In this way rest and movement are in agreement with the demands of the time, and thus there is light in life.

ShivaShaktiWhen a man has thus become calm, he may turn to the outside world. He no longer sees in it the struggle and tumult of individual beings, and therefore he has that true peace of mind which is needed for understanding the great laws of the universe and for acting in harmony with them.

Whoever acts from these deep levels makes no mistakes.

seed-of-light-in-darkness

Such it is that we can be in the midst of life, fully experiencing it, and yet be aware of its illusionary quality, hence be unattached to it and more able to flow with it. Let us say “Zorba the Buddha.”

Essence of Archetype, Desymbolizing the World, and Removing the Mask of Mysticism: A Primal Perspective on Spirituality, Part Eleven — The “God Above God”

Clean Mysticism

The “Monsters” Are not Real, A Pronoic Perspective … An Essentially Benign Universe Characterized by Grace and Love

75508_419570561463441_388329903_nThe contribution of a primal perspective, then, is twofold. First, it becomes obvious that the “demons,” the “monsters,” the resulting fear are not “real” (in terms of being rooted in transpersonal or “objective” reality). Rather, they are personal elements invading the perception of transpersonal reality. Behind the personal fear and pain we discover a more pervasive beauty and bliss, we sense an essentially benign universe characterized by grace and love.

Exotic Phenomena ~ Spiritual Cotton Candy

Second, the primal perspective allows us to see that much of the exotic phenomena as described in the spiritual literature is a consequence of personal pain and predilection and is not real in the transpersonal sense.

Desymbolizing the World

Making Exotic Phenomena Superfluous

0026-tumblr_lcz2t5kl5x1qag9hro1_400These two conclusions are sustained by the evidence that primalers are finding access to “cosmic life force” and “bliss” feelings often described in the spiritual literature, without having to contend with the monsters and demons, nor with the extravaganza of other-worldly description, which are concomitant to the life-force descriptions in the spiritual literature. Although one may reach deeper levels through various techniques, the deeper perceptions often are interpreted in terms of the highly symbolizing cortex. Bliss or life-force feelings are felt as immensely stronger and bigger than one’s self, in relation to a consciousness narrowed by personal pain and culture. And thus, they lend themselves readily to hyperbole and transpersonal descriptions.

Demythologizing Reality

angry dadPrimal therapy performs its desymbolizing function, making the exotic phenomena superfluous, by connecting the symbolic material pervading normal consciousness to real-life events. This dissipates the value of any such symbolic material as something in its own right. In primal this demythologizing process is apparent where many of the activities and fantasies of daily life are found to be “act outs,” that is, symbolizations of past pain: angry-dad1One reaches for a cigarette as symbolic of an unsatisfied need to nurse; or one becomes a writer because one was never listened to; or one travels the globe as symbolic of a need to be free of a constricting home environment in childhood.

Essence of Archetype

200278333-001But it seems that some of the deeper and more sensational experiences also are symbolic of primal pain. Even some of the “archetypal” experiences appear to be derivative of still deeper material. 7866082-newborn-baby-being-examined-in-delivery-room-by-doctorFor example, I have relived a postnatal experience that involved the cutting, scrubbing, and general abuse of my body (which was part of postnatal infant “care” in hospitals when I was born).

0011-img_0092

I can see where I could easily have imbued the experience with fantasy elements of an archetypal “Terrible Mother.”

godess-kali-1

witch_s640x427_thumb 43485149e141d96291000c76c297afb3_viewI did not choose to do so, because that would have meant turning what was obviously a personal reality into a fantasy and into something “transpersonal.” Yet I can also see where someone without access to the personal memory part of the experience would be left with only the fantasy.

leave_eden-2_thumb

Archetypal Universality ~ Biological Universality

The experiences evident in primal therapy strongly indicate that much of what has usually been termed “transpersonal” are, in fact, symbolically derived from personal life experiences in the “personal unconscious,” and that their seeming universality is related to our biological universality, especially as it concerns our gestation and birth.

253552_204561353007582_529440981_nGrof’s research also indicates that much of the exotic phenomena is symbolized preverbal pain. Concerning first-line or perinatal phenomena under LSD, he notes

[T]he encounter with death on the perinatal level takes the form of a profound firsthand experience of the terminal agony that is rather complex and has emotional, philosophical, and spiritual as well as distinctly physiological facets. (1976, p. 96)

Prenatal and Perinatal Roots of Spirituality

417002_520498194627937_1765380096_nBut then he also points out:

In a way that is not quite clear at the present stage of research, the above experiences seem to be related to the circumstances of the biological birth. LSD subjects frequently refer to them quite explicitly as reliving of their own birth trauma. Those who do not make this link and conceptualize their encounter with death and the death-rebirth experience in a purely philosophical and spiritual framework quite regularly show the cluster of physical symptoms described earlier that can best be interpreted as a derivative of the biological birth. They also assume postures and move in complex sequences that bear a striking similarity to those of a child during various stages of delivery. In addition, these subjects frequently report visions of or identification with embryos, fetuses, and newborn children. Equally common are various authentic neonatal feelings as well as behavior, and visions of female genitals and breasts. (p. 96)

I am reminded of Muktananda describing one of his spiritual experiences in which he visits “hell” (1974, pp. 114-115), which is a world filled with excrement. His description has striking parallels to some LSD experiences noted by Grof (1976), wherein this is said to be associated with “the contact with such biological materials and the termination of the agonizing experience of birth” (pp. 130-131).

tumblr_lydbvnhmod1r6cnsqo1_500_thumb

Biological Basis of Myth

159849849494_thumbThe fact that primalers relive these intrauterine and birth experiences without all of the accompanying symbolism, as exhibited in both the psychedelic and spiritual literatures, is evidence of a desymbolized cortex, less obscure in its perceptions. In fact, there is a pattern seen in the LSD research as well as, to a limited extent, in primal therapy:images Upon subsequent relivings of a traumatic experience, such as one’s birth, there is a tendency for initial, highly symbolized encounters with the material to be followed by sessions containing less symbolism. Typically, this occurs until the event finally is able to be accepted and relived in its real-life historical detail and, often, biological brutality (cf. Grof, 1976, pp. 68-69, 56, 58-60; 1977, p. 12).

The “God Above God”

But although the experiences of primalers and LSD subjects serve to dispel much of what is thought of as transpersonal phenomena, there still is much that cannot be explained away as derivative of primal pain. I’m not sure that I agree with Grof in the extent to which he attributes transpersonal status to certain elements that are intermingled with perinatal phenomena. He writes, for example: “Perinatal experiences represent a very important intersection between individual psychology and transpersonal psychology” (1976, p. 99).

prenatal-22

Deeper, and Higher, Spiritual Realities

But even without the pain-tainted elements, many of which have been called archetypal, it becomes increasingly hard to disregard his evidence for transpersonal phenomena on what appears to be a deeper level of the unconscious than even the perinatal. Certainly the prenatal arena has transpersonal overtones. Sperm and egg experiences themselves, in that they transcend the normal space/time boundaries of the personal in implicating a mechanism of memory that is nonphysical, are categorized by Grof as transpersonal experiences. Furthermore, beyond even that, the evidence from LSD research and the current spiritual literature suggests that the transpersonal level may be more expansive and varied than even Jung had envisioned.

374146_215692125227838_858863633_n114223_219569291506788_1951975904_n

392508_203485096448541_1770245522_n

66063_226823157448068_1342750833_nJanov might dismiss these transpersonal experiences as “overload” phenomena, that is, as fantasies occurring out of released, painful energy that is too great to be dealt with. But because they occur when the perinatal phenomena have been thoroughly, not incompletely, worked through, and because they have such far-reaching and positive effects on personality and later behavior, I do not think they can be so easily discarded.

cannot-so-easily-be-dismissed

Proof of “God”

Some of these experiences, especially in the parapsychological realm (such as ESP, clairvoyance, and ancestral memories), have even found verification with an astonishing degree of accuracy in Grof’s follow-up research (1976, pp. 164-167, cf. p. 207). Even the primal perspective, which points to the existence of memory and consciousness at the fetal, single cell, and sperm and egg level, certainly would have to acknowledge such awareness to have more subtle underpinnings than the brain and spinal cord.

73879_227018320761885_274661548_n

All of this points to the existence of something that is subtler than the physical body and undergirds the entire length of one’s physical life. The evidence also seems to suggest that this subtler self permeates much of matter and life in realms outside of the personal domain and therefore can be accurately termed transpersonal.

Life Is a Dark Screen … Fetishing and Fearing What’s Hidden: To Be Ignorant of Identity with Divinity Is the Purpose of the Human Form.

fetishing-whats-hidden

Life Is About Learning Not to Project Our Fears onto a Vast Unknown Which Is Essentially No-Thing : The Universe’s Trippiest Game Is to Become Human

154577_511361335570595_1968797156_n

Grof_CosmicGameiconSo, Divinity doesn’t ever pick pain for us, except to bring us back to happiness. What I’m getting at is that God is good. The Divine defines goodness. The amount of darkness we see in the Divine is indeed equal to the amount of darkness we have created for ourselves. It may even be a while to realize that even choosing the darkness was perfect, as the light is better seen in contrast to darkness and we better understand our own nature as Divinity, we better understand Truth in relation to the Untruth we hid ourselves with.

Where the Horror Comes In

Training in Faith, In Not Fearing

Remember peek-a-boo? It is the way that mothers teach their babies…by putting something in darkness, putting something out of view. That is what causes the upset, right? But it’s how babies are taught to not fear.

Basically, what we are trying to be taught, in peek-a-boo with God, in giving ourselves pain, is not to fear. We are being taught that when something is not in plain sight, basically not to project our own inner horrors into that unknowing.

fearing-whats-hidden

We can take the example of nakedness and lewdness. We know that cultures determine what is considered lewd largely through determining what is allowed to be seen and what is not. And from this we see there is a kind of a universal truth that what’s ever kept in the darkness is magnified. The darkness is also where we project all the things inside that we don’t know yet. And that’s where all the horror comes from. It’s basically from darkness … from the fact that something is not known.

fearing-fetishing-whats_-hidden_thumb

Fetishing and Fearing What’s Hidden

It is almost like there was a point in every culture where that which attracts inordinate interest, and even fixation, or even fetish, is always that which has been concealed. Where there is no darkness, where there is no hidden truth, let alone agendas, there is no fear.

Without these cultural filters on perception consciousness of nakedness is nothing more than as natural as, and just as overlooked as, our consciousness of the way animals look. They are also “naked.” But how often do you think what any of them look like in detail? You are not thinking about their appearance as being shameful or needing covering up…Well, most people don’t think of animals as needing covering like humans do. And they are not attracting your attention just because they only have fur on them.

There is a lack of interest in nudity and no shame when nothing is concealed. So also with other realities and thoughts. In Divinity—the state of total awareness and light … with everything at hand, or, “at thought,” to be more precise—you are freed from the wondering, worrying, the interest, the fixation, the curiosity…let alone the fear, uncertainty, of terror, horror, all of which arise out of the things that are hidden, that are concealed, that are in darkness.

fetishing-and-fearing-whats-hidden

Horror Comes from What’s Kept in Darkness

The darkness is also where we project all the things inside we don’t know yet. That is where all the horror comes from. It’s basically from darkness … from the fact that something is not known.

Project Our Personal Hiddens onto a Vast Unknown Which Is Essentially No-Thing

Like I’ve been saying, even in peek-a-boo that’s the case. But later, it’s God that teaches us, right? What we’re learning, in peek-a-boo with God, is not to fear. We’re being taught that when something is not in plain sight not to project our own inner horrors into the unknowing or into what always comes down to being no-thing…no thing at all.

projecting-onto-what-is-actually-no-thing

The Purpose of the Human Form

Male-doctor-spanking-a-newborn-baby-12383229-0The darkness makes a wonderful screen for projecting imaginary, truly mental, and fleeting as thought non-realities.

It is the reason for choosing the human form…in fact…. That is, to be completely ignorant of your identity with divinity, to create darkness, is the purpose of the human form.

In becoming human, you throw yourself, completely, into such a darkness, with the foreknowledge that God is good, and that you will always be in His, Her presence…. In fact you will be literally moving and thinking in total God immersion, and the only difference between people will be the degree to which they know that, or don’t.

Becoming Human Is God’s Trippiest Game.

jumpcliffSo it is the trippiest game that God plays. Imagine, it would be like any of us throwing ourselves onto another planet with complete total amnesia. teilhardnothumans (2)And the game would not even be known to be a game! You don’t know it’s a game, you just show up! That’s what’s so much different from us and the animals.

So, God plays this game…and we as God choose it because it is the most fraught with…well, let us say…let us simply call it peek-a-boo. By that I mean it is the most fraught with totally and sincerely believing the most horrible and hideous and terrifying things which can happen. It is because of that total amnesia…that lack of any link to truth…that we can believe the most horrible things are possible or real.

planetmates-appalled-at-humans

Life Is a Dark Screen

Life is come into and without any remembrance of our true nature, right? Now, life is essentially, then, a dark screen! Because we have no sense of our true nature, life is essentially a dark screen upon which anything can be found.

So the human form has its purpose in being a kind of a purging of all the unknown within. It’s not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with these things unknown. Life is like a projecting out, so that it can be seen, of all the things that one would conceive as a unique divine actor.

a-projecting-out-of-whats-inside

Animals Remember It Is Just a Movie, Unlike Us.

But this dream-like nature of reality is remembered again when in the presence of the divine, when in Divinity, or even, say, taking on an animal or other form where there is never that total amnesia. For nonhuman planetmates only engage in the kind of pretend that an actor has when performing a role in a play. See that’s what their reality is like. They always remember, so they’re always pretending…even when it’s something seemingly horrible that’s in the script. And they never confuse the role with their own true essence.

dreamtime_sisters_85_photo_detail

How Can God Be Devilish?

So it is only humans, forgetting their nature, who can conceive the incredible horror and act out the most hideous things possible.

humans-project-horror

But that also is part of the plan or game for humanness. For how could God act devilish and murderous unless He allowed Himself? Think about it.

And I know you’re saying, why would God want to act devilish and murderous? Ok, maybe I’m ahead of myself, but just hold that thought.

Graduate Courses in the University of Divinity. Pain Is the Professor … Bringing Us Ever hOMe: Experience Is Divinity, Part Three — All We Are Saying … Is Give Love a Chance

graduate-courses-in-university-of-divinity

The Greatest Teaching Is Also the Hardest Teaching: We Are One, Not Just With What We Admire, But Also With What We Despise … We Are One With the Darkness We Deplore

one-with-those-we-despise

jumpfrombldgintofiremanarms_thumbThis is the basis for what we call faith…which is the notion that the Universe, at base, is “friendly”…if not out and out loving…and that ultimately there is nothing to fear.

So, for pain, God is playing peek-a-boo with us…. Our Inner Divinity has blessed ourselves with it to guide us from danger toward our true path.

Of course we bitch and complain when we don’t get what we want, when misfortune brings down our cherished fantasies…and sure it is painful. But I doubt there is any of you who has not looked back at what you had intended and what you were guided to instead, and said, “Thank God I’m not in charge of my life… If I’d have gotten my way, well, hell, what a stupid idea that ended up being. God sure must love me to sustain and teach and guide me…in spite of myself.”

He does that for all of us and that’s what I meant about the pain being His blessing to us.

But of course there’s much more to it than that….

give-love-a-chance

All We Are Saying … Is Give God a Chance.

Take, for example, the ideas of heaven and hell. Those are the ultimate examples we have of our beliefs that pain is evil and is about God punishing us and conversely that pleasure is good and is about God rewarding us.

Hell. Seriously?

By the way, only humans could come up with something as horrible as a hell. ONLY humans—ones who are the most removed from the Divine themselves. For God, our Inner Divinity, could never come up with something like that. I’ll get into why later, assuming it is not readily apparent to you right at the moment. But for now, let’s just put it this way: There’s no hell. Not in the ultimate sense. Take my word for it.

There’s no hell, but does that mean everybody goes to heaven? Now, not quite, not exactly. Because, would heaven be getting what you ask for? Or do you think it would be getting what God—who knows everything—knows … you … want? That is to say, what you really need and the biggest part of you really wants….

230433_10151106813504775_759216669_n

Heaven Can Wait

jacobs-ladder-mccaulay-culkin-and-tim-robbinsDivinity might protect us from making bad mistakes through pain, but the other part of it is that we are allowed to go through with it… and find out…on our own…what a bad and dumb idea that is.

So in this sense it might be seen that “heaven” … or what amounts to our idea of getting what we ask for … might actually be not very good. Some might say that it would amount to a real hell. Ask King Midas, for example.

On the flip side, if what we ask for would actually lead to more suffering in the long run, then getting what we need to be happier in the long run might be rewarding and a blessing, even if it is initially painful and something we absolutely do not want when we get it. So, in this case, what might be seen as “hell” might actually be not very bad. Ask any alcoholic or drug addict who has hit bottom, for example.

not-the-end-of-the-world

Pain Is the Teacher … to Bring Us Back to Happiness.

Pain is the teacher. But it’s not pain that’s being imposed, or, is in any way a punishment. In fact, we are the ignorant ones who are picking pain. In some respect, the amount of pain one receives correlates with the amount of ignorance one is in. That is no different from saying that the longer one persists in doing the wrong thing, the longer one will suffer from the bad consequences of doing that: If one is too ignorant to stop hitting oneself on the head with a hammer, one is going to keep suffering. If one refuses to take remedies to get well, one will stay sick. If one does not face the truth about what we are doing to ourselves by polluting and radiating the globe, we will suffer more and longer … horribly in fact … for that kind of ignore-ance.

we-reject-all-His-blessings

But that is not the entire story, as it is also true that those who are further along in spiritual evolution—Christ is perhaps the best example—will take upon themselves, will bring to themselves, greater suffering for the purposes of learning the highest truths. Pain is the teacher, and some of us have opted to take graduate courses with the “master.”

amuletjewel_com_0020_1_1_img1__5047Indeed, some people, who happen to be at the “highest” levels of our refinement back to Unity, to Divinity, will take upon themselves the pain of others. This is the meaning of the bodhisattva—the one who refuses to go into enlightenment until all can go. This is the meaning of Kwan Yin and Avalokiteśvara, ever tearful in compassion for the suffering of the world. This is the meaning of Christ taking upon himself the sins of the world. It is as if at a certain point of our return hOMe we begin to reflect, or manifest, most strongly the qualities of Divinity which we are approaching. It is like at a certain point our Divine Nature is the least obscured from view.

Indeed, that is how we know of the the Divine. It is because we see it reflected or shining through in the actions of wholly others. It is because we see it reflected in the compassion and selflessness of the most evolved of us.

angels_portalThe bodhisattva stage, like the Centaur Chiron stage, is among the last stages of our return hOMe. It is as if we stand upon the edge of Unity and take a long mournful look at the ones we leave behind and refuse to go forward while others still suffer.

This is just prior to the greatest teaching of all—which also arises out of the pain and suffering that we have chosen at that stage. And this teaching is the hardest, for it involves not just removing the barrier to Divinity, but also acknowledging this last truth, which is that it is ourselves who has been causing, not just the pain we experience, but we participate also in the creation of the pain of Others. We realize that we ourselves are part of the mistakes and cruelty that we condemn in our concern for the suffering of others. We realize that we are One not just with what we admire, but also with what we despise.

ss-110127-egypt-unrest-09.ss_full

But beyond even that, suffering teaches us. We realize that there is nothing wrong with even that. We do not just forgive ourselves: We forgive others and in so doing are ourselves forgiven. The most common prayer in the Judeo-Christian world actually acknowledges this: It goes, “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” People think that part is again the tit-for-tat: If we forgive others, then we will be forgiven by the Divine.nothumanscat In fact, what it means is that in forgiving others we are also forgiving ourselves, for we are One with them. In judging others, we are judging ourselves. And in condemning others, we keep ourselves enslaved.

The boddhisattva refuses enlightenment until we all are enlightened. Is it possible then that in his turning his back on release he is also contributing to the imprisonment of everyone. But I am getting ahead of myself.

Prior to this awakening that we are One even with the darkness we deplore, we are at the stage Christ expressed on the cross when he said, “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.” One is at the point at which the boddhisattva is refusing enlightenment.

But we awaken to something beyond even that: We see that the entire thing is beautiful beyond belief, that it was always beautiful, even with all the “mistakes” built into it and all the darkness painted upon it.

163

But after this realization, also like Christ who suffered more then on the cross and just before his death said, “I and the Father are One.” And it is at this stage that even the boddhisattva accepts enlightenment. For what is realized is that enlightenment is not a state to be achieved, it is one to be realized: For one is One with All, has always been, and the only path necessary is the One that leads to realizing there is no path, never was, and there never needed to be one.

work-6391737-2-flat550x550075f-experience-life-in-3d-seagulls-nz

More about that later.

But whether we are actively enrolling in advanced courses or being thrust into remedial ones through our ignoring consequences of our actions and refusing to do the “homework” we have assigned ourselves (karma), the Divine on the other side of this is ever helpful and loving, providing the exact amount of stimulus or pain to either teach us or wake us up.

divinity-pervasive
